What is Soonercare?
For those of you who are completely new to Soonercare, it is a Oklahoma Medicaid health coverage program. It has been developed and funded by both the federal and state governments of Oklahoma. The program was designed to help pay the bills of people who couldn’t afford to themselves. Sometimes it will cover all of them sometimes not. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority or OHCA is a state run agency that is responsible for the administration of the program by which financial eligibility is determined.

Who is it For
To qualify for SoonerCare, a person must:
•Be a Oklahoma Resident
•Must be a verified U.S. Citizen or qualified alien. Most who have immigrated to the United States after August 22, 1996 are barred from the program for five years.
•The applicant must meet specific income and resource standards in certain categories.
Which Services Are Covered?
Covered health care services will include regular doctor visits, any stays in hospitals, or prescriptions. There are specifics to this as to how much will be covered in each of these areas.
How Much of Each Service is Covered?
Anyone who meets the required income guidelines will have all cost covered. Co-pays still may apply to some services.
How is Soonercare different than Medicare?
Medicare is a federally funded health insurance program where as Soonercare is a mix of state and federal funding. Medicare is administered and ran by the specific centers for Medicare & Medical Services (CMS). Medicare will typically provide coverage mostly to individuals age 65 and up, as well as some people with certain disabilities.
If you’re currently on Medicare and you qualify for SoonerCare part of your health care costs will be covered.
